British bar owner throws in pumpkin pie, candlelit talk for Thanksgiving family meal

Today is Thanksgiving Day, and a classic Thanksgiving tradition is that the whole extended family — mom, dad, grandma and grandpa — gathers around the table for a family meal. Family members take turns talking about how much they’re grateful for the past year, while other relatives play football with them. For one couple in Britain, though, one of their relatives is largely responsible for the whole thing: the local barman.

According to the NY Post, there was plenty of food on the table at one house near Leicester, England on Thursday, but John Mulkeen went one step further by throwing in a pumpkin pie and— gasp!— a pie-eating contest, along with a candlelit chat for the camera, and a promise to celebrate (and live-tweet) his wife Caroline’s 20th wedding anniversary with “10 shots of whiskey and three tattoos.” Caroline gladly accepted, and today they’re celebrating, joined by the Guinness World Records and a bunch of friends and family.

On hand to witness the eating contest was the equally demented Martin Guetta, who actually weighed in:

In the end, Caroline’s pumpkin was just as good as the barman’s, and apparently John Mulkeen also lost his mind and ruined the decoration the family had made:
