Three women were held at gunpoint and robbed in their cars following home burglaries in Hollywood, police have said.

The hold-ups took place after the alleged thieves fled from officers who were called to a Hollywood Hills home on Sunday night.

Police were called after the three women, aged 32, 30 and 31, encountered a suspicious man in their cars.

The latest crime took place on Tuesday evening, when a woman in her 40s was approached in the area of North Whittier Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Investigators say the man pointed a handgun at her and demanded she show him where her valuables were before driving off in a white Ford Mustang.

A similar incident happened about two hours later, when a woman in her 50s was approached in the area of North La Brea Boulevard and Laurel Canyon Boulevard.

Police say he then pointed a firearm at her and took her handbag before driving off in a blue Ford Focus.

The women were unable to provide detailed descriptions of the man.

In another incident, a woman in her 50s was walking in a park near Fairfax Avenue and North Robertson Boulevard on Tuesday night when a man in his 20s approached her and demanded she hand over her valuables, police said.

He then allegedly held her at gunpoint and demanded her identification before driving off in a silver Mazda Miata.

Police are searching for the three male suspects, described as being in their 20s and appearing to be homeless.
